FLASH FLOOD WARNING for Frederick, Urbana and Braddock Heights until 6:15 p.m.
TORNADO WATCH for Maryland until 9 p.m.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH: For the area until 9 p.m.
The District is under an extreme heat alert Saturday as severe storms move through the region during the afternoon and evening hours. Those storms have produced a slew of alerts.
A Tornado Watch is in effect for Carroll, Howard, Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Harford, Cecil Calvert and adjoining Chesapeake Bay zones.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the other surrounding areas.
“A line of strong to severe thunderstorms will move from west to east across our area over the next several hours,” said 杏吧原创 Meteorologist Mike Stinneford. “Storms may produce wind gusts over 70 mph, large hail and heavy rainfall.”
Heavy storms will persist later Saturday night, with storms diminishing by midnight.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser issued the alert as daytime temperatures are expected to feel like 105 degrees or hotter.
The alert is through Sunday at 8 a.m. and says, “extremely hot temperatures and humidity during the day and overnight will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. People who work or participate in outdoor activities may be at greater risk.”
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the region until 7 p.m.
Additionally, there is a code orange alert for air quality.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for most of the region from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., including D.C., as well as portions of Maryland, including: Anne Arundel, Carroll, Cecil, Central and Southeast Howard, Central and Southeast Montgomery, Frederick, Northern Baltimore, Northwest Harford, Northwest Howard, Northwest Montgomery, Prince Georges, Southeast Harford and Southern
Baltimore. In Virginia: Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Eastern Loudoun, Fairfax and
Western Loudoun.
The National Weather Service said the severe thunderstorms are expected mostly between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday with damaging wind gusts and large hail possible in addition to the chance of tornadoes.聽

Earlier, D.C. issued an air quality alert for the entire region, saying it was unhealthy for sensitive groups.
“Poor air quality continues as wildfire smoke lingers in the area,” AccuWeather Meteorologist La Troy Thornton.
The heat and smoke are not the only weather events to be aware of Saturday.
Severe storms are expected again Saturday afternoon and evening, “some of which may turn severe, bringing down pours, damage winds, perhaps even a tornado,” Thornton said.
Sunday will be cloudy with “some hazy sun as the wildfire smoke lingers,” Thornton said.
On Monday, there will be possible thunderstorms in the afternoon with an otherwise sunny day.
Tuesday is expected to be cloudy with a thunderstorm possible in the afternoon.
