Complete with police on motorcycles, vintage fire trucks, and politicians tossing candy and treats for children, the 56th annual Fourth of July parade in D.C.鈥檚 Palisades neighborhood kicked off a sunny, sparkly neighborhood celebration.
Laura Hopman, who attended with her husband, Brian, and their sons Nate and Sam, said, 鈥淚t鈥檚 great! It鈥檚 fun to be back out and enjoying the Fourth of July, and it鈥檚 always great to celebrate it in D.C.鈥�
Susan Lusi, whose home is on the parade route, said a friend describes the small-town feel of the parade as 鈥減leasantly dysfunctional鈥� — it doesn鈥檛 always step off on time, and there鈥檚 often a long lag between each unit marching in the event. 鈥淚t鈥檚 always just fun to feel that you鈥檙e part of something that people are celebrating,鈥� she said.
A parade in D.C. isn鈥檛 complete without politicians: Mayor Muriel Bowser, Council Chair Phil Mendelson and council members Anita Bonds and Elissa Silverman were among the D.C. dignitaries marching in the parade.
