There’s an elevated risk of severe thunderstorms ahead of the evening commute Monday. Here’s everything you need to know.
7News First Alert Meteorologist Jordan Evans said weakening storms from the Great Lakes could spark isolated showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening.
said some storms could become severe, with damaging wind gusts posing the primary threat. Rain will begin around 4 p.m. and move east through the evening and past sunset.
“As we head towards later in the afternoon, we’re going to track some showers and storms moving through the area that have the potential to be on the strong to severe side, with damaging winds being the primary threats, as well as frequent lightning and torrential downpours,” 7News First Alert Meteorologist Mark Pe帽a added.
Evans said the hot, humid conditions persist through Tuesday before temperatures ease closer to seasonal averages Wednesday.
The week’s hottest weather across the D.C. area also arrives Monday through Tuesday, with highs in the mid-90s and heat index values above 100.
In the District, Mayor Muriel Bowser聽聽through 8 a.m. Thursday.
Tuesday will be the greatest coverage of showers and storms, the National Weather Service forecast, with damaging winds and the possibility for large hail in some areas.

Daily storm chances continue through midweek, with a likely break Thursday. A slow-moving cold front may bring cooler temperatures and lower humidity by Friday, though showers and thunderstorms could linger ahead of it.
