Brewers’ slugger Jake Bauers to miss time with broken toe

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) 鈥 Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers has a broken big toe on his right foot and was not in the lineup for Tuesday鈥檚 game against the San Francisco Giants.

Bauers was injured when he fouled a ball off his foot during Monday鈥檚 . The Brewers鈥 home run leader with 18 later walked gingerly off the field and left the game.

An X-ray initially revealed a fracture line in Bauers鈥 toe before additional testing Tuesday revealed the extent of the injury.

鈥淎t the time they weren鈥檛 sure if it was old or new,鈥 Bauers said Tuesday. 鈥淕ot an MRI and CT scan this morning. Doctors came back and said it was probably old and was already there. Right now it鈥檚 just swelling and a little bit of pain. Gonna be fine.鈥

The 30-year-old left-hander was relieved to learn he didn鈥檛 suffer a new injury.

The Brewers have not set a timetable for his return.

鈥淚f it was new it was just going to be pain management,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he fact that it鈥檚 old is probably better of the two options. It鈥檚 going to be fine. Just got to get the swelling down.鈥
