Mark Pe帽a, 7News First Alert Meteorologist

Sunday won’t be as hot as recent days, but the D.C. area remains very humid and unsettled. High temperatures will climb into the mid- to upper 90s, with heat index values near 100 at times. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening. While a few stronger storms could produce damaging wind gusts, the primary threat may shift toward heavy rainfall and localized flooding. Storms will be capable of dropping large amounts of rain in a short time, especially in areas that receive repeated rounds of downpours.

The unsettled pattern continues Monday as a stalled front lingers nearby. Showers and thunderstorms are likely at times, and some rain could be heavy. Forecasters will be watching the potential for urban flooding closely, particularly across the D.C. metro area.

Conditions should gradually improve Tuesday, although a few showers may linger, especially early in the day. The threat of severe weather appears lower, and humidity levels should begin to ease.
